REMEMBERING ROCHAS' DECLARATION THAT ARARAUME CAN NEVER BE IMO GOVERNOR

In the quotable quotes of modern contemporary literary playwrighting and prose writing, there's one which keeps running round my brain. It says: "Once a character is created and identified, his consistency must be consistently consistent"!

In fiction, that's very easy to do as it's easy to say. But in real life, it's easier said than done. Most human beings are characterized by inconsistencies. And human inconsistencies are consistently inconsistent!

Senator Ifeanyi Araraume of Imo State of Nigeria doesn't need any introduction. He's known for many things by many people. He answereth all things, depending on the situation and circumstances.

That makes him qualify for the tag of consistency. And his consistency has remained consistently consistent as far as inconsistency is concerned.

Since he emerged on the political scene of Imo State, he's been consistently romancing one constant philosophy of "I must win or I make the State ungovernable"!

For that, he probably commands as many admirers as he has detractors, who seem not willing to stop reminding him that "them say you dey do like this"!

He was a senator for eight years, 1999-2007. Since 2007, he's been steadily chasing the office of governor of Imo State. He featured in the 2919 governorship election, in which he has remained consistently controversial as ever.

As far back as 2007, when he just returned from the Senate and gave a robust shot at the office of the governor of Imo State, the snag or stigma that he will never be Imo governor was planted.

The then President, Olusegun Obasanjo, sumptuously fertilized that mindset, bringing to the forefront the notion of the aggressive senator practising the ignoble form of politics that Obasanjo described as "cut throat politics"!

That ugly insignia has dogged the eigmatic and maverick Isiebu-born political warlord at each diet of the general elections till the latest in 2019.

After all the political and electoral hostilities in the 2019 election, he came in third, with a little over 100,000 (one hundred thousand) votes!

And as he's consistently wont to do, he meandered his way to the electoral legal front to lawfully seek redress. His first port of call was the Imo Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal (GEPT).

The tribunal threw away his petition for lack of competence. The senator, who holds the chieftaincy title of "Lion of Ishiebu", majestically strolled noiselessly to the Court of Appeal to seek redress on the tribunal upholding of the victory of Gov. Ihedioha as declared by INEC.

The Court of Appeal disappointed him as it went further to concur with the declaration of INEC and upholding it  and throwing his petition out on grounds of lack of merit.

He wasn't any bit ruffled as he noiselessly roared to the Supreme Court, where the petition/appeal is receiving due judicial attention and consideration with judgement steadily loading.

Reputable legal wigs and silks have come up to assert that Senator Ifeanyi Araraume's chances of being declared governor of Imo State by the Supreme Court is zero. It's not easy to doubt the Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) in the legal field on such matters!

Instructively, unknown to many people, much as Senator Ifeanyi Araraume is totally out of the radar of media drive for his profuse efforts to secure by the courts the victory he failed to get at the polls, he's stealthily like the lion he is, criss-crossing Nigeria, doing everything humanly possible to get victory at the Supreme Court!

It's really surprising that his intimidating political dynasty "Destiny Organization", appear as if it's in disarray, without as little as a comment on the mass media as they did during the campaign before the election.

Nobody hears anything about Senator Ifeanyi Araraume in Imo State over his petitions and appeals against the victory of Gov. Ihedioha. But he's very much active in his underground and undercover schemes!

It may be necessary to remind here that it was Gov. Ihedioha that flew the flag of Imo PDP in the 2015 guber election. And  the person he defeated at the primaries was Araraume, for which the lion roared a lot in court at the time but failed to bite!

It's also pertinent to remind that following his defeat by Ihedioha at the 2015 primary election, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume , at the eleven point ninety ninth minute collapsed into the political structure of the then governor, Rochas Okorocha to the chagrin and consternation of Imo people!

The 2015 election was scheduled to hold on April 11, 2015. Araraume collapsed on April 9, 2015. Then came the election two days after, but it ended in a stalement, warranting a supplementary election on April 25, 2015, which Rochas won and was returned for an unmerited and undeserved second term!

On Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Rochas' Victory Chapel, Government House, Owerri, with Araraume ably represented by his wife, Rochas relayed how without Araraume, his second term victory wouldn't have been possible!

Rochas incorporated Araraume fully into his regime and appointed his son, Ifeanyi Araraume Jnr a State Commissioner, while facilitating the appointment of Ifeanyi Araraume Snr as a Federal Commissioner!

Sizeable amount of money and a promise that Rochas would hand over to Araraume in 2019 were reportedly all part of package Rochas offered Araraume to secure his unfortunate collapse in 2015!

For reasons best known to him, however, before the end of one year of their pact and accord, in 2016, Rochas made a u-turn and told a full house of Imo journalists that "Araraume can never be Imo governor"! That was a bombshell that shook the foundation of Imo politics at the time!

The proclamation by Rochas against the guber Araraume's ambition was reinforced with the decision by Rochas that nobody above 50 years will ever be Imo governor. Everybody concluded that Rochas was directly attacking over-50 Araraume, who he has characteristically used and dumped!

Recall that the bomb thrown by Rochas wasn't the first about ineligibility of Araraume to become governor of Imo State. As stated earlier, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo threw the first missile in that direction of prediction!

To call Rochas' bluff, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, bent on becoming Imo governor, roared out of the perpetually confused APC and gatecrashed into the sole trader APGA in what turned out to be a "ponzi scheme" through which many Imo politicians were fleeced of a billion naira that's yet to be refunded!

Hence, Senator Araraume ran in the 2019 election with the ticket and flag of APGA. As already stated, he managed to come third behind the disqualified Uche Nwosu of no party, but ahead of Senator Hope Uzodinma equally of no party!

The Araraume petition and appeal is at the Supreme Court as at the time of filing this short essay. That's not a problem. The problem is the desperation with which Araraume has over the years tenaciously pursued his guber ambition.

He was even deeply fingered in the dead on arrival "Shadow Government" that saw him teaming up again with the same Rochas that ruined his political calculus by recanting on his promise of handing over the Araraume in 2019! Indeed, the man is too desperate to be Imo governor!

The gang-up failed right from the first meeting in Abuja because while the same Rochas was angling to get the same Araraume as the "Shadow Governor", some of the gangsters wanted Hope Uzodinma to be the "Shadow Governor"!

One thing that remains baffling is why Obasanjo and Rochas proclaimed the Government House of Imo State, an unreacheable no go area for Araraume! Why?

And now that it's obvious he has suffered defeat, loss and failure again in 2019 election, he has upped the history of his political metamorphosis, ordeal and odyssey and has become a reference point as longest playing veteran practising politician in Imo State.

Many people are already expecting that he'll try his luck again in 2023 and if he failed again, he'll contest again in 2027. It then becomes that somebody close to Araraume should remind him about Rochas' prediction and prophecy that "Araraume can never be Imo governor"!
