Melaye’s Maltreatment: Senate Grills IGP Behind Closed Doors

 Abuja Sundiata Post- Senate is presently grilling  the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, over alleged maltreatment of Senator Dino Melaye during his arrest and detention by the police.

Recall that the senator representing Kogi West senatorial district at the National Assembly, Senator Dino Melaye was said to have jumped out of the Police vehicle enroute Kogi where it was alleged he would be paraded with suspected criminals. He was later admitted at Zankli medical hospital for treatment where the police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood in company of about 30 armed policemen took him away from that hospital to the intensive unit, Trauma  srction of the National hosital.

Sundiata Post recalls that the red chamber on Thursday last week  mandated the IGP to appear before it on Wednesday todayafter he failed to respond to the red chamber’s initial summon on account of engagement in an official assignment with the President.

The senate summoned him to appear in person today to brief it on the maltreatment of senator Dino Melaye and recent killings in Benue state and other flashpoints within the country.

Although the Senate’s plenary was closed at 11:07 am, the police boss was later led into the chamber.
